  • The Cummer Art Museum held a concert in the Gardens. The rain passed quickly and the day turn out to be perfect. It was Parrothead Night with Riptide. These guys did a great job and played for 4 hours. People brought blankets, food and drinks. Food was also available for purchase by TreeCup Cafe. The Cummer has always been one of my favorite places to visit. Be sure to check out the next concert which is on July 4th. Look and see if you were spotted by your Girl on the Town Photographer for Jacksonville.com.

Memorial Day @ Veterans Memorial Wall

  • 20 albums
  • Come and observe those who attended the Jacksonville Veterans Wall on Memorial Day. We were there to honor the men and their families. Share the tears of the families and friends, but see the pride they have for the fallen and those who have served our country to keep us safe and free. Say a prayer and like them, Thank God for our strength and understanding. Today 7 more names were added to the wall and honored. We are proud of all our soldiers, who have protected us and sacrifice their time and sometimes their lives. On the last album you will see me with my new friend Elbert W. Sawley, Jr., who is 92 years old and served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam and was a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. As a military brat, I have respect for our military. Hear the 21 gun salute, the brass band and the cheers. "WE ARE PROUD TO BE AMERICAN."

  • Friday was the 20th year of the "Lunch on the White House Lawn" for 5th. graders at San Jose Episcopal Day School. The event marks the end of their history studies of the Civil War and recreates the period when the country's economy and spirits were starting to recover according to school communications director Valerie Brown. About 60 students dressed in period outfits, the girls brought picnic lunches, the boys brought the girls flowers, and they pretended to like each other's company as they ate together on the lawn in front of the San Jose school.

PeeLander-Z @ JackRabbits

  • 12 albums
  • PeeLander-Z is a high energy Japanese comic punk rock band, with an incredible ability to keep you totally entertained and involved. The crowd danced, jumped rope, played instruments and even got to be the band. At one point the band moved to the floor to play while I shot from the stage. It was one of the most entertaining events I have been to in a while. This is one amazing group, who is just about fun and making you feel happy. If you have a chance you need to see them perform. They are refreshing, friendly and should be on TV. The fans are great and I had fun meeting them. You can see more of PeeLander-Z @ http://www.peelander-z.com/. Just click on the band and it will take you into the website.

Grand Opening of Riverside Arts Market

  • 7 albums
  • What a great way to use the property under the bridge. Artist, food vendors, and entertainers were there for the delight of all us. There were also local organizations with membership information. Many of these talented people, who could not afford to showcase elsewhere, were very appreciative of this opportunity. Over 40 thousand people showed up to support their efforts. Lets continue to do this as it will be a weekly event. I feel this venue will take Jacksonville to new heights in the art sector and in truly pulling together as a community. It would be great, if more of the local bands would take turns performing, for as you can tell from my pictures, you would have a diverse audience. Take a look around to see if you were spotted and peruse the booths in case you see something you would like to purchase next weekend. Add a little extra time on your agenda so you can also enjoy the entertainment. http://www.riversideartsmarket.com/.

Mardi Gras At Copeland's of New Orleans

  • 6 albums
  • Some of my friends from the meet up groups were heading to Copelands to celebrate Mardi Gras, so I decided that would be a great photo opportunity. The band KOLB was the lead band and I hear that they are ready to make it big. All I know, is they played original music and the singer had an amazing voice. The other bands did a great job too. Copeland's is located at 4310 Southside Blvd Jacksonville, FL. We had plenty of room outside and there was even a shrimp boil. They also have an amazing menu and the bartenders handled the crowd well. They threw out beads and t-shirts, and kept us entertained. I met some fun people and enjoyed taking pictures.
